I’m trying to figure out how much sump pump failure and sewer backup insurance my mother should have on her house with a finished basement. I’ve already estimated the likelihood of it happening with reasonable accuracy, but I have no idea how to estimate the possible damage that could occur.
I realize there’s no way to get a very accurate figure by asking this here, so I’m just looking for ballpark figures for how much damage an incident could cause. I’d like to know what an average amount of damage might be, and also a worst-case scenario (water up to ground level, etc).
But ANY information would be better than what I have now, so thanks for any at all!

My father and mother had a sewer back-up that put 6″ of water in their finished basement. It was the fault of a nearby construction project, and they fixed and paid for it. It cost them 34 thousand dollars.
I do flood restoration. if you could give an estimate on the size of the basement this would be helpful
